ABOUT AJMER

AjmerIt was founded by Raja Ajai Pal Chauhan in 7th century. It was the place, where The Chauhan Dynasty of the Rajputs were in limelight and got the very stronghold over it and who built the famous Taragarh Fort in the 7th Century on the Hills. Emperor Prithviraj Chauhan ruled the Ajmer till 1192. This town was reckoned as seat of administration for the Chauhans till it was lost to Mohammed Gori in 1193 A.D. It then became a part of the Delhi Sultanate. The last ruler Prithvi Raj Chauhan has been made immortal in the folklore and songs which are sung in the Region. The main theme of these songs is love story of Prithvi Raj with Sanyogita. Ajmer was always coveted by Rajputs, Mughals and Marathas. In the rivalry between them, this place saw many battles being fought.

The Moghul Emperor Akbar succeeded in taking over and he used this place as the main Headquarter. Again this place, Ajmer was gone into the hands of Emperor Shahjahan and he used this place for his pleasure time. However, Rana Kumbha of Mewar and Raja Maldeo again established Rajput rule over Ajmer. Today neither does not king nor kingdom survive what remains is saga of Valour, glory and sacrifice.

AjmerAn ancient city towards central Rajasthan, Ajmer has represented harmonious blend of Sufi and Hindu culture. Here Hinduism and Islam come together. They form a culture which is very unique for this place. Ajmer is otherwise a sleepy town except for palaces Dargah and Jain temples. Nevertheless, Ajmer has come up as major pilgrimage both for Muslims and Hindus.

Ajmer is easily accessible by road and by trains. The nearest airport is that of Jaipur which is 138 kms.
